Nature's Mancala

Image
Nature's Mancala Waves deposited these rocks in depressions in the bedrock, and additional wave action both carves the depressions deeper and continues to wear and round the stones. Mancala is a class of African games played with beans, shells or stones moved across a playing field made from depressions scooped into the ground or a wooden board with bowl-like depressions.  My guide book is progressing well, but I still need to pick a cover!   www.PhotoTripUSA.com #California   #landscapephotography   #guidebook

Morro Rock in morning light

Image
Morro Rock in morning light In the winter months Morro Rock is lit on its south side from the sun rising to the southeast.  This was captured in early January 2011.  I'm adding this to a G+ album of candidate photos for my upcoming guide book:  https://plus.google.com/b/104896696773020847048/photos/104896696773020847048/albums/6023287641544647697 #MorroRock   #MorroBay   #CaliforniaCoast   #landscapephotography

Sometimes moving a few inches or feet makes all the difference

Image
Sometimes moving a few inches or feet makes all the difference Often it's important to work your way into a scene, in case you leave a mark which would challenge your photos from further back (one of my photos here did have someone else's foot print in the foreground, which I had to edit out).  California Coast November 30, 2010. 27 minutes later...

27 minutes later... This evening was a speed photography exercise... I shot over 60 compositions in 50 minutes as the sunset developed then faded into blue hour.  You can see more photos from this evening in the new album I've created:  https://plus.google.com/b/104896696773020847048/photos/104896696773020847048/albums/6023287641544647697 California Coast prints: http://jeffsullivan.smugmug.com/California-Coast-Big-Sur-to/ #seascape   #californiaphotography   #landscapephotography

Milky Way and the Camelopardalid Meteor Shower

Milky Way and the Camelopardalid Meteor Shower My third time-lapse created from material captured in the last half of May:  http://youtu.be/rp-Cz1aVTtY I took over 1500 photos on Canon 5D Mark III, 5D Mark II and 70D cameras shooting North, West and panning to follow the Milky Way SE to SW.  I caught a lot of planes and satellites, and one small meteor in the north-facing clip which has approximately the right trajectory to plausibly be a Camelopardalid meteor. Thanks in advance for comments, +1s, shares! #nightphotography   #astrophotography   #astronomy   http://youtu.be/rp-Cz1aVTtY

New Favorite Photo on G+

Image
New Favorite Photo on G+ Over 2800 +1s so far... not bad for a "ghost town"!  Individual photos seem to get presented to far more of my contacts than videos or albums.  That's a shame, since many G+ users seem to enjoy seeing my trips or the locations I shoot in the broader context of an album, and my videos... well, time-lapses are cool.  Google is shooting itself in the foot if it's holding back certain types of potentially popular content on G+. #landscapephotography   #ghosttowngplus   #horses   #wildlifephotography   Originally shared by Jeff Sullivan Wild Mustangs Wild horses earlier this week in a remote part of California. #wildlifephotography   #wildlife

What comes out in a ghost town at night?

What comes out in a ghost town at night? Photographers.  The Milky Way.  This is a collection of mostly new material from our visits to Bodie State Historic Park at night, and our interior access sessions the following mornings. The first two clips I shot during our last Bodie night photography workshop May 25, the following two clips were shot May 3.  The interior images were from May 4: http://vimeo.com/jeffsullivan/bodie-night-photography-workshops #timelapsevideo   #timelapsephotography   #Vimeo  Vimeo  http://vimeo.com/jeffsullivan/bodie-night-photography-workshops
