Anticipating Optimal Dune Lighting Via Sun Position

Image
Anticipating Optimal Dune Lighting Via Sun Position In the absence of interesting weather, are there optimum lighting conditions on certain dates and times to photograph some sand dunes? One of the advantages of going to the same place over and over again over time is that you can see how the light can change in a seasonal way, and you also run across unique lighting associated with a specific angle of the sun. As photographers, we have...(continued on my blog): http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/2018/11/19/anticipating-sun-sand-dune-lighting/ #landscapephotography #DeathValley #NationalPark #California

Windy Death Valley Dunes

Image
Windy Death Valley Dunes In September Outdoor Photographer Magazine had a "Monochrome Magic" theme for one of their Assignments, so I produced my first black and white conversion for this Death Valley image, using Adobe Lightroom, then On1 Silver Efex 2. It won! https://www.outdoorphotographer.com/blog/monochrome-magic-assignment-winner-jeff-sullivan/ My next Death Valley workshop is coming up next month, December 10 - 14: http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/death-valley-photography-workshop-2013/ #landscapephotography #California #DeathValley #nationalpark #blackandwhite

Death Valley Wildflowers 2017

Image
Death Valley Wildflowers 2017 I've photographed over two dozen wildflower species in Death Valley National Park so far this month. Last year's superbloom delivered a bumper crop of seeds, which multiplied the rodent population, and that has resulted in more sidewinder rattlesnakes than I've seen in the park before. Watch where you step! I followed a couple of the tracks, but was not able to catch up with any of the snakes. www.jeffsullivanphotography.com #deathvalley #nationalpark #landscapephotography #California #photographyworkshops

End of the Season

Image
End of the Season Yosemite's Tioga Pass Road closed yesterday, but it will be in my dreams all winter long. Sunset in Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows

Originally shared by Jeff Sullivan Photography Sunset in Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows A short hike and a long lens yielded this stunning view in the High Sierra Saturday night. Yosemite's Horsetail Fall

Image
Yosemite's Horsetail Fall Monday evening, as sunset approached.  The healthy snowfall and warm winter combine to make this the best year to pursue this event in years.  One person shooting nearby had been trying to catch it for six years! I describe places to shoot this annual event from on pages 21 - 22 and 31 - 32 of my "Photographing California - South" landscape photography guidebook:   http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/photographing-california-travel-guidebook/ #landscapephotography   #Yosemite   #nationalpark   #findyourpark

Afternoon Light at Mesquite Flat

Afternoon Light at Mesquite Flat I was really fortunate to enjoy some great light in Death Valley last week, so if they open more of the roads closed after October storms, I might go back in a few days! #landscapephotography   #deathvalley   #nationalpark   #Canon   https://500px.com/photo/131211617/afternoon-light-at-mesquite-flat-by-jeff-sullivan?utm_medium=googleplus&utm_campaign=nativeshare&utm_content=web&utm_source=500px
