September 27 Lunar Eclipse Through the Clouds

September 27 Lunar Eclipse Through the Clouds I produced a video during the lunar eclipse Sunday night, with both time-lapse and live action video: https://vimeo.com/jeffsullivan/lunar-eclipse-september-27-2015-night-photography via Vimeo  #lunareclipse   #september2015   #timelapse   #video   #nightphotography   https://vimeo.com/jeffsullivan/lunar-eclipse-september-27-2015-night-photography

Total Lunar Eclipse September 27, 2015

Total Lunar Eclipse September 27, 2015 The partly cloudy forecast and webcam images didn't look all that promising in the Eastern Sierra yesterday afternoon, so I ditched my plans to pursue one of several compositions that I had worked out, and I stayed home to see if the moon would make any appearance at all.  Here's the story and some of my results from the event: http://activesole.blogspot.com/2015/09/total-lunar-eclipse-september-27-2015.html #lunareclipse   #bloodmoon   #september  #2015 #astronomy   #astrophotography   #nightphotography

See the "supermoon" total eclipse tonight!

See the "supermoon" total eclipse tonight! For sky watchers in the Rocky Mountain states, partial eclipse begins at 7:11 pm local time, so look outside now!  For those of us on the West Coast of North America, moon rise occurs closer to sunset, in a little over 30 minutes.  Here in the Eastern Sierra, local moon rise is around 6:44 pm and sunset is around 6:47 pm. The moon will clear the horizon to the east right around sunset, well into its partial eclipse phase, and be fully eclipsed from 7:11 - 8:23 pm. Blood moon and Uranus

Image
Blood moon and Uranus Last Wednesday, October 8, 2014.  Here's one of my old blog posts describing shooting the August 28, 2007 lunar eclipse:  Lessons Learned: Photographing the Lunar Eclipse http://activesole.blogspot.com/2007/08/lessons-learned-photographing-lunar.html Blog:  http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/ #lunareclipse   #bloodmoon   #astrophotography   #astronomy

Supermoon Rise Over Mono Lake

Image
Supermoon Rise Over Mono Lake The night of the lunar eclipse last week started with the moon rise just before sunset.  I caught the moon rising at Mono Lake.   There may be only one day a month when you can capture a moon rise at sunset like this as I describe in this old blog post from 2006: How To Plan for Great Full Moon Rise and Set Shots! http://activesole.blogspot.com/2006/11/plan-ahead-for-great-full-moon-rise-and.html I talk in the blog post about having a calendar in "your cell phone or PDA"... does anyone remember the old Palm Treo 650?  That's what I had before the original Droid! #lunareclipse   #bloodmoon   #astrophotography   #supermoon

Lunar Eclipse Setting Over Convict Lake

Image
Lunar Eclipse Setting Over Convict Lake I captured the landscape around Convict Lake, well lit by the moonlight as the eclipse started, then I captured the moon at roughly 8 minute intervals thereafter and merged the sequential images into the original exposure. www.MyPhotoGuides.com #lunareclipse   #october2014   #astrophotography   #moonphotography

Lunar Eclipse Time-lapse

Lunar Eclipse Time-lapse Below is an example of a time-lapse video which you can capture during a lunar eclipse, and here are a couple of blog posts introducing time-lapse photography: Create a Timelapse Video on Your Digital Camera http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/2011/08/01/create-a-timelapse-video-on-your-digital-camera/ Create a Timelapse Video of a Meteor Shower http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/2011/08/13/create-a-timelapse-video-of-a-meteor-shower/ #lunareclipse   #astronomy   #astrophotography   #timelapse   #tutorial   Originally shared by Jeff Sullivan Last post before I head out for the eclipse... Total Lunar Eclipse Tomorrow Night April 14-15, 2014

Total Lunar Eclipse Tomorrow Night April 14-15, 2014 Depending upon where you live on the planet, a lunar eclipse will occur starting either late April 14 or in the early morning hours of April 15.   Most of these shots were captured during the lunar eclipse December 21, 2010.  I used a Canon 5D Mark II with EF 16-35mm f/2.8 lens on the wide angle shots to capture a time-lapse movie, and I used my old 10 megapixel Canon 40D with 70-200mm lens and 2X teleconverter to pursue telephoto shots and track exposure changes.   Here are some ideas on shots you can pursue during a lunar eclipse:  http://activesole.blogspot.com/2011/12/lunar-eclipse-photography-dec-10-2011.html Using a planning tool such as PhotoPills ( https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photopills/id596026805?mt=8&uo=4&at=10ldnC ) you can even line the moon up with natural or man-made landmarks, like I did during the lunar eclipse on December 10, 2011 in San Francisco: http://activesole.blogspot.com/2011/12/chasing-moon-luna...
