Back Up Your Phone Photos!

Back Up Your Phone Photos! I hate to think what could have happened if a phone failed after 2000 miles, if I hadn't been backing them up the whole way! Originally shared by Jeff Sullivan Campsite Photo Backup and Recharge I carry external batteries like this to charge phones and other USB devices wherever I am. To protect my PC data, I back up my hard drives (having lost 7 hard drives in recent years). For my vehicle I carry a roadside assistance plan to get my vehicle towed when it breaks down. But what if your phone fails? The most common cause of failure is dropping it in water, which I've done. I'd rather upgrade to the latest model than carry an insurance plan on the phone itself, but when traveling I don't stop to sync the data enough, or even just back up photos, so how can you avoid losing data? On my September road trip, SanDisk offered me their new Wireless Memory Stick to use with my 2 phones: the old iPhone 5S I still had on a 2-year contract and an LG G4 th...

Fortunately I didn't lose a phone on this trip, but when my SUV suffered a catastrophic failure, that underscored the fact that you just never know what's going t...

New DripThat Storytelling App Shares Experiences

New DripThat Storytelling App Shares Experiences There's a new sharing paradigm coming. like mixing the best elements of messaging with social media.  Consider the new app dripthat, released a few days ago.  On one hand it's like messaging on steroids, with strong distribution control, so everyone on the distribution won't get notified for every single response.   You can seamlessly mix photos and video clips, and publish over time, "dripping" out the moments you're sharing over a certain time period.  Existing social networks often seem to demote the  distribution of album posts, which sucks for anyone trying to tell the story of their day, and what percentage of your audience will actually click through to an album?  On DripThat they don't have to, the moments you share are seamlessly shown to them. By the way, do you like the pictures of Bodie on this new app announcement?   ;) Here's the app, on IOS now (Android coming soon): https://itunes.apple.c...

I was #sponsored to try out the beta, will share my thoughts in the coming weeks now that it's out. Originally shared by Mobile Nations Dripthat is a new social network and app that lets you easily share photos and videos with family and friends. With Dripthat, you share little "drips," small collections of photos and videos. You can choose to share drips publicly, or with a specific group of friends and family. Exploring an American Ghost Town

Image
Exploring an American Ghost Town I received a preview unit of the new LG G4 smartphone last week, just in time for a workshop I was leading last Wednesday in Bodie.  The first photo is an unedited HDR mode photo, the rest went through my usual workflow of making a few minor adjustments in Adobe Lightroom.   These were some of my first photos taken on the phone, so I mainly used Auto and HDR modes.  The HDR mode was critical to eliminating blown out skies and evening out the uneven lighting indoors.   Over the following days I started exploring the option to shoot close-ups, work with RAW file output.  The RAW output offers increases quality when you have time to post-process it, and a matching JPG for when you don't: http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/2015/05/18/new-lg-g4-smartphone-review-raw-file-output/ I have 34 samples in my LG G4 album so far, mostly from the afternoon walking around Bodie:  https://plus.google.com/photos/+JeffreySullivan/albums/6150346956545894305 I...

Sample 4K video, LG G4 smartphone. Crisp, high resolution, good color, great image stabilization.  One 4K video created nearly 150MB in roughly 40 seconds, so the ability to add microSD internal storage up to 2TB is important.
