Testing Embed of Google+ Posts in a Blogger Blog Post

Testing Embed of Google+ Posts in a Blogger Blog Post Although I have a new WordPress blog set up so that it should have my Google+ posts available for people who might happen to come upon my content through my blog, the tool that was supposed to copy and maintain my G+ posts on my blog seems to have missed so...

Here are some shots from another place I went in November, Yosemite National Park... Originally shared by Yosemite National Park Workshops Off Season in Yosemite Valley Every season in Yosemite Valley has its strengths. Fall and winter don't offer the Valley's waterfalls at maximum flow, but calm water certainly has its perks!  I prefer Yosemite Valley without the crowds, so I tend to visit most often from fall through spring. As I get my workshop schedule set for 2014, I'll post dates on my blog: www.JeffSullivanPhotography.com

Poconip Ice Fog Images from Yesterday and Today

Image
Poconip Ice Fog Images from Yesterday and Today A mixture of shots from yesterday and today, from my Canon 5D Mark III and my iPhone 5S. Wikipedia has a good description for our local ice fog known as poconip or pogonip: "In the western United States, ice fog may be referred to as pogonip.  It occurs very rarely during cold winter spells, usually in deep mountain valleys. Ice fog can be quite common in interior and northern Alaska, since the temperature frequently drops below -40° in the winter months. Pogonip only forms under specific conditions; the humidity has to be near 100% as the air temperature drops to well below 0 °C (32 °F), allowing ice crystals to form in the air. The ice crystals will then settle onto surfaces." "The word pogonip is derived from the Shoshone word paγi̵nappi̵h, which means "cloud". Supposedly, early settlers called it "white death" because they believed the crystals got into their lungs and caused death." We've h

"Poconip" Ice Fog on Topaz Lake

"Poconip" Ice Fog on Topaz Lake I was disappointed to not be able to see the night sky before dawn this morning and there was no sunrise color to speak of, but we had some nice ice fog, locally referred to as "poconip",  putting a coating of frost crystals over everything as the sun came up, so the morning turned out very well for photography after all.   #Weather #weatherphotography #Winter

iPhone 5S Photos from Death Valley

iPhone 5S Photos from Death Valley I haven't gotten to many of my DSLR images from my last trip but here are a few from my phone... #deathvalleyphotography    #deathvalleyphotoworkshops   #photoworkshops  Death Valley Workshops  Originally shared by Death Valley Workshops OlloClip Lenses on iPhone 5S To better document my travels in real time I decided to upgrade to an iPhone 5S with a full set of Olloclip lenses: 2X tele, wide, macro, fisheye and the polarizing filter.  They slide right over the corner of the phone for proper positioning.  The 2X tele and polarizer can be bought bundled with a mobile phone case with flip-up corner to quickly slide the lenses into place, and the bundle costs a bit less than buying the lens and case separately.. Of course one of the nice things about mobile phones is the ability to have a camera in hand in a matter of seconds, enabling the capture of shots that would have been missed in the time it takes to set up a tripod.  Now I also have the im

Move Aside ISON as Comet Lovejoy Takes the Stage

Image
Move Aside ISON as Comet Lovejoy Takes the Stage In the mid-northern latitudes like much of Europe and the U.S., Comet Lovejoy currently rises around 2:45 am at a compass angle of 75 degrees (a little north of east).  At sunrise it's about 40 degrees high, almost directly east by that point..   If you have a smartphone you can buy an app called StarWalk .  In its settings you can turn on viewing of comets.  It has been more accurate than other programs I've used to try to track Comet Lovejoy: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/star-walk-5-stars-astronomy/id295430577?mt=8&uo=4&at=10ldnC Congrats Ryan Watamura on having your image featured in the article on Lovejoy by SPACE.com on Friday: Amazing Photos: Comet Lovejoy C/2013 R1 Spotted by Stargazers http://www.space.com/23863-comet-lovejoy-photos-c2013-r1-skywatching-images.html They covered my Nov 14 image as well; I need to send them this newer one.
