“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters.” - Norman Maclean, "A River Runs Through It" #plusphotoextract

ReplyDeleteJames Kennedy The water was about 2 feet deep, and there were fish swimming around in it! Apparently there were well openings into this reservoir, and people would occasionally get a fish showing up in their buckets. Eventually someone lowered himself into the space with a torch and discovered how extensive it was. There are several large underground cisterns like this spread around the city, I believe dating back to the Roman era. Back when they were in active use, they'd be full of water.
