Is Klout a Useful Concept for Social Media Users, i.e. Non-Consultants?
I can't say I have an informed opinion about Klout yet, but I've just added the main networks that I use (G+ and to a lesser extent *Flickr*). From what I've seen, Klout may have their work cut out for them if they have aspirations to make themselves valuable and relevant to people outside the social media marketing consultant niche.
Regardless of Klout's current or future relevance, I do like the idea of connecting and interacting across multiple networks... not putting too many eggs in one basket, so I welcome responses of people open to interacting on other networks:

If nothing else, on Klout there are some special offers for people with scores over 40, like 100 free MOO Cards: http://klout.com/#/perk/Moo/Moo
(Disclaimer/disclosure: "I was given a free product or sample because I'm a Klout influencer. I was under no obligation to receive the sample or talk about this company. I get no additional benefits for talking about the product or company." In other words, I just liked the cards when I tried them via an offer made to all Flickr users a while back.)

Klout scores are overweighting Twitter
As I've moved my Twitter behavior over to Google+ and Facebook, my subscores on Klout have started to really go up, as you can see below. But my overall Klout score has gone down. Today Joe Fernandez, CEO, told me why in email. My Twitter retweets have gone down.
In other words, they are overweighting Twitter when compared to other social networks for its top-line score.
Me? I don't really care, except that this does not reflect reality that the audience "juice" has moved over to Google+ and Facebook. Very dramatically in my case (both are seeing TONS of engagement that didn't exist three months ago).
Will Klout get me to put more time into Twitter? No way. The future of media is on Google+ and Facebook and my subscores show that.
In other words, is it worth gaming Klout for a better Klout score? Nope.
That's what Klout should worry about. :-)
I dunno. Since I moved away from twitter a bit my score just dropped like a rock...
ReplyDeleteI never really used Twitter much, so I guess my score will stay on the rocks until G+ outcompetes Twitter and Klout adjusts their algorithms.
