Black and White Software Trials
Black and White Software Trials
I converted a few images to black and white using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Silver Efex in the Nik Collection by Google, and onOne's Perfect Effects 8. In some cases I also pre-processed RAW files in Lightroom and processed multiple exposures in Photomatix 5 to increase dynamic range before starting the black and white conversion.

Those are really nice. I use Lightroom for most of my post-production, and I like to drop the vibrance and saturation down, but not all of the way. I usually give clarity a boost (how much depends on the shot), but I like to mess around with the vibrance and saturation at low levels with high contrast, varying clarity. I find that I can get some very dramatic shots, like this one:

Keep it up. Your work is awesome.
Le contraste manque de profondeur.....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos in Black and White.
ReplyDeleteE
ReplyDeleteBeaux clichés mais pas extraordinaires.ou est la profondeur? .Le contraste est à sent. Desolé
Frederic.benabdelkader Frederic.benabdelkader Did you "+1" your own post? Hahaha. Wow.
ReplyDeleteFrederic.benabdelkader Frederic.benabdelkader Yes, high contrast would make them better, for sure. No need to keep explaining it. lol.
ReplyDeleteRōnin Dusette On this pass I mainly took images I had processed in color, since they already had spot removal and other steps done, but sometimes the noise seemed more noticeable in black and white. I should definitely adjust a few from scratch to black and white.
ReplyDeleteWonderful capture!! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing with the #LandscapePhotography theme!!
ReplyDeletebeautiful black and whites!
ReplyDeleteTrès bel album!
ReplyDeleteFrederic.benabdelkader Frederic.benabdelkader Just as not all music is loud, not all images are processed to be dramatic. Just as a fine wine changes over time, these images are at the beginning of their journey, not the end. These are exploratory edits using four different editing tools. No doubt these images will display different personalities each time they reappear in the coming years. The various versions won't appeal to everyone, just as no music or wine appeals to everyone. While it is rewarding to please some people, when my images are too popular, I should probably consider whether I have settled for some flashy gimmick to make them stand out.
ReplyDeleteSince album posts like this don't get much circulation and visibility on G+, sometimes I use them to show recent travels or work in progress. I did have some more distinctive results. I have several more photos which I will post individually. One of the images I made six versions of, so I'll have to pick one of the three that are my favorites.
These are lovely
ReplyDeleteLovely Album Jeff.
