Egypt has too many Obelisks LOL
ReplyDeletein rome we have more or less 5 of this... some are very very big (the vatican one).... maybe egypt will start asking them some day :-)

After an object has spent time in territory managed by various cultures (Egyptian, Greek, Roman, et cetera), who do you return to? In Hagia Sophia some of the red columns came from Pergamum (Greek and then Roman site in Turkey), prior to that the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world) if I remember correctly, but the stone can be traced to a unique quarry in Egypt. Turkey would love to get many artifacts back from Germany, but I don't see them putting stamps on any obelisks to mail them back to Egypt. It's very complicated, there are few easy answers.
