With the arrival of cold weather in the Sierra Nevada, people are starting to use their wood stoves and fireplaces. Some newer fireplaces have catalytic converters to reduce air pollution, but it doesn't take many less efficient sources to fill the valleys with smog. Fortunately for photographers, the layers provide an interesting graphic effect to feature in our images.

Charles Leung It hard to say what the tradeoffs are... electricity is mainly generated from coal and by the time it reaches your wall 2/3 of the energy was lost in generation and transmission. I guess I should spend as much time as possible spend camping and backpacking.
