Flickr Photographers on G+

Flickr Photographers on G+
I started on Flickr back in 2006 or so and have over 3000 landscape and nature photos over there. I think many of us are more active now on G+, but there are a couple of features we could still use over here (groups, etc). Google's off to a great start winning over the hearts and minds of photographers, and I'm optimistic that many of the features we're accustomed to, or are hoping to see, are coming.

Let's reconnect with old friends from Flickr, and make some new ones. Who should I add to this circle?

Comments

  1. PLs share some circle of people ready to interact with new people through Google+ hangouts. Some , apparently want to interact with those of the same region or country.

  2. Hi Jeffrey Sullivan. Could you add me to this circle if you find my work interesting ?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I would like to be part of that circle also. I've been on Flickr for a few years and have recently renewed my pro account. I find it still useful.

  4. Great idea! Flickr's redesign is supposed to launch next week, and it sounds VERY similar to the gallery features here on Google+. It'll be interesting to see, for sure. I still like both places! :)

  5. I'm curious to see how Flickr's makeover will look once it's implemented. It might be too late for a change, but with so many still over there, I wonder how people will take to it. ;-)

  6. Please add me to this circle.
I hope Flickr do a better job of their redesign than 500px have done!!!

  7. Great idea Jeffrey Sullivan. I've been on flickr for a few years now although I haven't been nearly as social over there for quite a while.

  8. Thanks for sharing this circle, Jeffrey Sullivan - Like many, I'm not as active on flickr as I once was, but have so many great contacts that haven't migrated away from there yet, so I still use flickr on occasion . . . I'll look through the circle and see if there's any to add.

  9. I was active there for a while, but that was before my accident. I never really got back into it after that. That was around three years ago... Come to think of it, this is part of the reason I'm so happy to have found and become part of the G+ Community.

  10. you can add me, I still post there pretty regularly

  11. You can add me. I use to love Flickr but now I rarely use it except to check out explore images. Hope there redesign goes well or I will not be renewing my pro account.

  12. Great idea Jeffrey Sullivan !
Please add me to the list! People wouldn't know to find me under the name I use.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/subconscience_sight/

  13. I'm on there (http://flickr.com/photos/ljellis) but haven't been posting a whole lot since G+ came around. Still deciding how much effort I want to put into maintaining multiple different locations for photos.

    ReplyDelete
  14. you have to add Nathan Wirth, Grant Murray, Jon DeBoer, Lotus Carroll, Thomas Hawk

  15. Only started recently, but planning to stay there ;-) http://www.flickr.com/photos/tom_szulczewski/
... and yes, I'm on 500px too! lol

  16. Google Plus has stolen all my attention but I do have some work on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/clarkcrenshawphotography/

  17. DL Byron You've raised a great point, that talking about other sites' features often leads to a discussion of improvements G+ might offer. That came up in my Flickr redesign thread yesterday, which is partly why I wanted to collect a circle of Flickr users, to facilitate those types of constructive discussions. I actually see G+ improvements as being one of the best results we may see come out of Flickr's redesign. There's nothing like a little competition to drive a company and product forward.

  18. Miklavz Grmek I jumped from Flickr onto 500px the moment I heard that they were offering image sales... then they dropped that. Flickr seems bizarrely antagonistic towards the real world, in which photographers want to sell their photos, and many aspire to have that represent a healthy income stream some day. I think 500px will replace that print sales capability, and I hope that Google is considering those types of features for G+ as well.

  19. Jeffrey Sullivan yet, but I pulled that comment. Didn't want to derail what you're doing here. Agree with everything you said.

  20. DL Byron No worries... drop by the previous thread on features and Flickr's redesign if you like, since I started that as a place for comments on enhancement requests (to Flickr and G+): https://plus.google.com/107459220492917008623/posts/Z9EuPTKFLzP

  21. I'm on there. As of next week I'll be active again too. Cheers Todd.

  22. We are on Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/photogenix-lincoln/ Post weekly on there and probably daily on here - used to be daily roughly on Flickr - almost always one at a time. G+ changed things for us but we are still active on both.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I still enjoy using flickr - I generally upload there every day and I make a habit of faving photos in my contacts page. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm still as active on Flickr as I am on Google+. Unfortunately this takes up twice as much time as before. My problem is all my Flickr contacts are mostly still over there. There's only a small overlap.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Miklavz Grmek are you on commission from 500px? They have trashed a great site with their random "upgrade" and their "Market" is only going to sell two products
    Canvas $500
    HD Download $2.99

They will lose a lot of users and certainly won't get many photographers signing up for this Market. There are lots of people, me included, that wish they hadn't paid for the so called "Awesome" account.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Miklavz Grmek Andy Stuart I don't think you can say they've trashed a great site. You can use it without upgrading or having the market setup correctly. They're gearing it for the enthusiast that wants to sell some prints as well as showcase their photos. Something like a more advanced Flickr. I think they're making the right decisions, especially as a business. It may seem ridiculous or weird, bu has anyone else done it the same way? Not really. They're trying a lot of different things and listening to their users. That's always a good sign. I think they'll work things out slowly with the community helping them out.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Arthur Chang listening to their users is one thing they are not doing, other companies who are making huge changes to their sites use a beta version and take feedback. They dumped a major rework of the site without consultation or announcement of pending change.
IF they are gearing it for the enthusiast, which seem the opposite everything they have done to date, why would they only offer $500 canvas prints and $2.99 HD Downloads? That doesn't make sense, why are they not offering paper prints and lower cost canvas ?
If you've been on the site today you would have seen a huge amount of anger at the loss of all the good features and retention of the worst aspects of the site. They have without doubt shot themselves in the foot on this one.

  28. Well, let's not hijack this thread with the wholesome discussion of 500px. I think we all have our opinions on what's good or bad, and change is always hard. I can't speak on the subject anymore since I really don't know what happened internally at 500px. I'm just giving them the benefit of the doubt that they're actually thinking and working all day and are making the best decisions they can. Let's get back to Jeff's Flickr circle talk.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I've also been on Flickr since 2006 ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/gotfish_mb/ ) I still like the image organization system of Flickr, but G+ has some great features as well.

  30. Cool, I'm up to about 90 so far... keep 'em coming! I'll probably re-publish around when Flickr gets its makeover next week.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lotus Carroll I am a Page so cannot +1 your comment but that is the reason I've just about abandoned places like 500PX and Tumblr. I get massive guilt pangs if I post and run. You have to be realistic about how many networks you can be active on - and active doesn't just mean "look at me... look at me.." :-) I've found G+ to be brilliant for proper and meaningful 2 way communication so have made my choice. 500PX was great too but it was there or Flickr and Flickr integrates with my site as well as having a bigger and more active friends network.

  32. Hi Jeffrey Sullivan , I still love flickr after 5 years (http://flickr.com/photos/danielcheong), would love to join this new circle. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I really still love Flickr but it need a better way to socialize. It also need to be updated, which I heard is on the way.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am a flickr-ite and am looking forward to the talked about update there. Thanks for doing this circle.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jeffrey Sullivan While nowhere as active as I used to be since I joined in 2006, I still enjoy some of the groups - it remains an interesting way to discover new photographers, especially if you know which groups to frequent. But G+ is now my main social network, as I find the interactions here much more meaningful.
Pls add my name too - http://www.flickr.com/photos/dschwabe/.

  36. Cool, I thought I was the only one to still use Flickr. ;) I'm posting over there at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluememe/

    ReplyDelete
  37. haha Michael Riffle made me laugh :)

  38. I echo what Daniel Schwabe said. I'm looking forward to seeing the makeover. Here's my link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wendybakerphotography/

  39. Would love to be considered for this circle Jeffrey Sullivan . I've been looking to get back into flickR, it fell under the radar a bit because of the rise of all these new platforms, but I just read it still holds one the most viewers. this is definitely a great start to revive it and get people talking!! !! Thank you again!

  40. Franka M. Gabler It was a pleasure meeting you as well. You have some great photos of the Yosemite / Sierra Foothils area, which I love, so I'm glad your work has come to my attention.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'll probably think of a few more, but meanwhile can you add me?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks everyone... I've collected over 100 Flickr photographers on G+ so far... with a revamped Flickr apparently launching tomorrow, I'll redistribute the updated circle by then to facilitate a discussion of the pros/cons of that new release.

    ReplyDelete
  43. FYI I did circulate a larger Flickr circle with 167 contacts: https://plus.google.com/107459220492917008623/posts/gy1uqif2S3F
Sadly my circles have been full for a while on G+ and I eventually had to delete my Flickr circle to make room.  Circle management functionality in general seems to have decayed on G+, but I ran the Uncircle Inactives utility recently it says that 985 of my 5000 contacts have been inactive for 6+ months, so perhaps I can clear up more room again and re-add this circle myself.

Just in the last few days I found this feature to identify and connect with Facebook friends on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/friends/facebook/
I found 924 Facebook friends as new contacts on Flickr, and I was able to add them all with one click.

I should add that Flickr says uploads are up 3X - 7X since their redesign last May.  I do see a lot more activity on my posts there now.
