Quick Trip to Yosemite

Quick Trip to Yosemite
Friday morning Lori Hibbett saw a photo of Horsetail Fall the night before which looked good, so we headed over to Yosemite to see if we could catch it. Upon arriving, we met up with Eric Leslie, but the water wasn't flowing. We stopped at Sentinel Bridge to catch the moon setting, along with Venus and Jupiter reflecting int eh Merced River. Continuing on to the museum, we met Michael Frye David Hoffman and Franka M. Gabler at the opening reception for the Yosemite Renaissance XXVII. The sunrise wasn't dramatic the next morning, but conditions were great for shooting reflections in the Merced River.

  1. Were you able to photograph the "fire" in the horsetail falls?

  2. Ajay Prasad On Friday morning I saw a decent photo of Horsetail from the night before, so I headed over there, but it wasn't flowing. Even though it was 54 degrees in the Valley Friday when I arrived, there's just not enough snow up above El Capitan to feed it. The light was still orange on the patch of rock where the waterfall should be, so we have photos of that on the wet spot people are nicknaming "Horsetail Seep". There were a ton of photographers in the park, and the parking was as crazy as I've ever seen it where people park to shoot Horsetail.... and that was a weekday. There's a slight chance there may be new snow by Wednesday and the could flow again Thursday or after (if it's clear and warm enough), but usually storm fronts are followed by cold, dry air, so even if the snow shortage is resolved, I doubt conditions will be right for the water to flow.
