Looking Back at the iPhone 5S
Looking Back at the iPhone 5S
Sometimes I pull out my cell phone to capture a shot, either to take advantage of the depth of field, to capture a simple panorama with no extra steps, to use a fish eye or macro lens, or simply to record a place, thing or moment conveniently without having to get out a DSLR. My iPhone 5S has been close to full for a few months now, so I can either clear out many of the images and videos, or I can (delete them all and) trade up to an iPhone 6. I'm looking into reviews to see if the camera quality is all that much better, and I'll write a blog post on what I decide and why. www.activesole.blogspot.com

Stay with your iphone 5s - I would strongly recommend against the iphone 6. UNLESS your cell plan has unlimited data and you don't mind uploading images via cellular (vs wifi).
ReplyDeleteI was happy with my iphone 5 and was more than willing to keep it. But the camera hardware died (sensor?) and my iphone had gone past the 1 year warranty.
I think you can understand how I could not do without my pocket camera. Then Verizon Wireless, my cell service provider, had a special offer - trade in your old iphone for a new one. I was faced with the option of a 5s, 6, or 6+. I opted for the 6 b/c it had more storage. Photogs never have too much storage right?
Since I pocketed the iphone 6 I've had nothing but trouble with wifi & bluetooth. I've tried every fix imaginable with no results. Even with the latest iOS 8.1 update my issues have not been resolved. My next option is to visit my VW store and request a new phone on the grounds that the phone I purchased has a defective chip.
Long story short, I hate my iphone 6.
You're nuts if you stay w iPhone. Just saying... the iPhone6 about* equals 2 models previous to my #GalaxyNote3... you can thank me later lol
ReplyDeleteI hear ya, and your needs. I don't have a Mac so I'm not locked into Apple. I don't consider Samsung niche and truly have been beyond pleased w capabilities. There's not been one Apple user that's seen my device ( Meaning my gallery in their hand and watch me demo features) who hasn't said solemnly No mine can't do that. Or "damn, no way that photo is with a phone?!" And Fwiw a couple of these users are Apple stockholders who reaaaalllly don't wanna admit they are being beat but realize they are. The GoPro has the app for mine as well. You should contact your provider ie ATT/ Samsung and see if they will let you "test" the Note4. The 5S is waterproof built-in but you can always buy a case, the Note series totally crushes even that because of the processor. Reason I suggest that is that I know someone who just did that for ATT...he was reviewing it on Twitter regularly. I'm guessing any service provider would as well if you're not ATT. Just suggestions. I don't work for them, I'm just sharing what I've learned thru my exp. And I don't wanna waste mine or friends time doing so who aren't photographers, artists or even smartphone savvy.
ReplyDeleteGeez I certainly hope that doesn't sound cocky or come off wrong. And I hope it makes sense!?! I'm distracted with a bunch of family around and trying to escape the noise that's following me lol...(little ones are so energetic when on visits)
No worries Tami Mohr-Jones, everyone should use what's right for them, and it's good that you're happy with yours. I don't have any other products from Apple, but I do need some apps only available on Apple iOS, so the iPhone 6 Plus will be perfect.
ReplyDeleteI've also had multiple credit card numbers stolen over the past year or so, and had to replace my credit card each time, so I'm really looking forward to Apple Pay as a more secure alternative to credit cards.
I meant to tell you that yes we do have apps comparative to PhotoPills (PlanIt) and the same co w Hyperlapse. We've had a secure wallet already what seems like a yr+ now too. I've a great editor that's been compared to PhotoShop as well. Basically there's not much that Samsung & Android aren't already doing or capable of doing, some much easier and better, some not. Always gonna be a give and take. Apple just doesn't play well w others tho and once you've bought in it's hard to break it. I'll let you play w my phone when you make your way S, how's that LOL...trying lousy humor...mourning the Antares explosion... Ugh...
ReplyDeleteTami Mohr-Jones My son picked up a Samsung S5 in December, and he's very pleased with it. I put off my purchase since the 6+ couldn't deliver in time for the Orion launch. The Nexus 6 looks interesting. The 6+ is still getting well reviewed in direct comparisons for the camera, but maybe I'll just wait to see what new models come later in the year.
ReplyDeleteJeff Sullivan Photography The S5 is nice in that it has the waterproof feature (provided that's the model he has) & I almost went that route however the Note series is the way to go for true photographers, biz etc...w the quadcore processor I'm doing well without a PC or laptop & I can buy a waterproof case. Can't buy extra processing brains. There's extra features they built into the camera not to mention the "Note" functions. S5 has at least one feature mine doesn't but the Note 3 has multiple camera features the S5 doesn't. They just pushed the "Virtual Tour" feature to my modes adding it to the 360°, golf swing, drama (multiple action shot frames seamed together into 1) and more I rarely look at. My signature, built in fisheye effect & postcard ability are my faves plus jotting down a note on the back of an image is priceless out on location. My buddy who is a NASA photo/ videographer just got the Note 4 but I'm refraining from seeing what more it does because I'm not eligible for an upgrade anytime soon anyways. Been trying to get Samsung to hook me up for always showing them off; they've nibbled but so far that's it. Sooooo if I do impact you or yours choice please mention it :)
ReplyDeleteOne more thing, I hope you & Lori absolutely loved coming out here. Bummer so much was going on in my world I couldn't meet up with you guys or offer a stay.
